NVIDIA Omniverse keyboard shortcuts for Windows and Linux

Default keyboard and mouse bindings for NVIDIA Omniverse Kit apps, from the USD Composer documentation and shared extension pages: viewport navigation, selection and transform tools, files and assets, animation timeline and Curve Editor, paint, curve and measure tools, and the Material Graph editor. NVIDIA prints one list for Windows and Linux and names no Kit version. Camera keys act only with the right mouse button held; W, E and R alone switch the Move, Rotate and Scale tools.

73 shortcuts in 7 sections. Checked row by row against NVIDIA Omniverse USD Composer documentation on . Edited by Jay.

Viewport navigation 17

While a move key is held, Shift doubles the movement speed and Ctrl halves it.

NVIDIA's pages disagree on Q and E. The Keyboard Shortcuts table lists Q (alternate Page Up) as Move Up and E (alternate Page Down) as Move Down; the Viewport Navigation key chart and the USD Explorer fly-mode chart say Q moves down and E moves up.

The Viewport Navigation page also gives H as the Home control, which returns the camera to the scene origin, while the shortcut table uses H for asset visibility. The same page warns that not all navigation tools are available in all apps.

Interface and windows 7

These are defaults. The Hotkeys window lists actions per window and lets you rebind them; a global hotkey works anywhere in the application unless a hotkey of the focused window overrides it.

ActionWindows / Linux
Toggle UI visibilityThe same switch is the UI Toggle Visibility item of the Layout menu.F7
Toggle full screenMatches Fullscreen Mode in the Layout menu.F11
Capture screenshotSaves a screen capture, like Capture Screenshot in the Edit menu.F10
Toggle de-clutter modeSwitches the viewport between standard and declutter visualization.Shift+H
Open QuickSearchLists search categories such as Actions, Commands, Material and Settings; NVIDIA labels the extensions beta.Tab
Open Profiler windowWorks once the Profiler extension is enabled; Window > Profiler opens it as well.F8
Run scriptExecutes the code in the Script Editor's Python tab, like the Run button.Ctrl+Enter

Animation timeline and curve editor 11

ActionWindows / Linux
Play or pause animationStarts timeline playback on the stage, or halts it when already running.Space

Copy keyframesWorks on keys selected in the Timeline or in the Curve Editor.Ctrl+C
Paste keyframesIn the Curve Editor the keys land on the selected curve at the current frame.Ctrl+V
Delete selected keysRemoves the keys picked in the Timeline or Curve Editor from their curves.Delete
Move playhead onlyJumps the playhead without changing stage time, handy for duplicating an earlier pose.Middle-click
Select a framePicks a single frame on the timeline so its keys can be moved.Shift+Click

Notes

The viewport is where most of them live, and it works like a first-person game bolted onto a 3D editor: hold the right mouse button and steer with W, A, S, D, plus Q and E for vertical movement. While any move command is active, Shift doubles the speed and Ctrl halves it - NVIDIA documents this modifier pair explicitly, and it is the single most useful thing to know when a scene is either crawling past or flying by. One caution: NVIDIA's shortcut table and its navigation key charts name opposite directions for Q and E, so test the pair in your own build.

Beyond navigation, the common set splits into selection (Ctrl + A, Ctrl + I, Esc), asset control (duplicate with Ctrl + D, instance with Ctrl + Shift + I, group with Ctrl + G), and a small Paint Tool cluster where B plus the scroll wheel sizes the brush. The extension pages add the tool keys W, E and R, the Key All hotkey Alt + S for the timeline, and a separate set for the Material Graph editor. If a binding here does not match your installed app, the Hotkeys extension in Omniverse lets you inspect and rebind actions - the in-product list is authoritative for your version.

Questions

Do these shortcuts work in every Omniverse app?

The common table is published word for word in NVIDIA's USD Composer, USD Explorer and OpenUSD documentation sets, so it is the shared baseline for Kit-based apps. The Viewport Navigation page adds that not all navigation tools are available in all apps, and each app can add or rebind keys through the Hotkeys extension.

How do I move the camera in the Omniverse viewport?

Hold the right mouse button and use W, A, S, D to move, Q and E for vertical movement, or the arrow keys and Page Up / Page Down as alternates. Alt + left-click orbits, the middle mouse button pans, and F frames the selected asset. NVIDIA's pages disagree on whether Q or E is the upward key, so try both.

How do I speed up or slow down viewport movement?

Hold Shift during any move command to double the speed, or Ctrl to halve it. RMB + Ctrl + scroll wheel adjusts the move speed incrementally.

Which keys switch between the Move, Rotate and Scale tools?

W selects Move, E Rotate and R Scale. Q returns from a transform mode to select, and T toggles between selection by prim type and selection by model kind.

Can I customize Omniverse keyboard shortcuts?

Yes. The Hotkeys extension in Omniverse apps lists the actions of each window with their bindings, is searchable, and lets you reassign keys or combinations. Its menu can restore the defaults and import or export presets as JSON files.
