How Shortcut Speedrun works
Pick a platform, choose a level, and the game shows you an action name — “Duplicate line”, “Go to definition”, “New incognito window” — and waits for you to press the real key combination. The game listens to the physical keys, so Ctrl + D counts only when both keys are actually held down; typing the letters does nothing. Every question is drawn from the same verified table you see on that platform’s reference page, so a shortcut that scores here is a shortcut that works in the software.
Five levels. Beginner (45 seconds per question, single-key shortcuts only, the answer appears automatically after 3 seconds) is a flashcard mode for learning a new tool. Intermediate (30 seconds, up to two-key combos) still lets you ask for a hint but never shows one on its own. Expert (20 seconds, every shortcut, no hints) adds a 3× streak multiplier. Speedrun (15 seconds, no hints, wrong answers cost 5 points, 5× multiplier) is the mode most leaderboard runs are made on. Survival has no clock at all: you start with three lives and lose one per mistake. Your score combines base points per level, streak multiplier and a reaction bonus for answering fast without a hint, so a quick accurate run can beat a slow perfect one.
Leaderboard and privacy. After a run you can submit a nickname to the global board or skip it. Only the score, platform, level and nickname are stored; there is no account and no email. Anonymous aggregate results — average accuracy per platform and which keys players miss most often — feed back into the reference pages so that the hardest shortcuts get extra explanation.
Tips. Start with Beginner on a tool you use daily, then move up a level on the same tool before trying a new one. Ten minutes a day on one platform is worth more than an hour across five. When you keep missing the same key, open the platform page in another tab — each row has a short note on what the shortcut does and when to use it.
