📜 Zendesk's official documentation does not publish a shortcut table; it points agents to the in-app list (profile icon › Help › Keyboard shortcuts), where shortcuts are enabled per user. The keys below are the standard Agent Workspace set as shown in that in-app list. Checked 2026-08-03.

Where the official list lives

Zendesk is unusual: there's no public shortcut table in its docs. The canonical list is inside the product — click your profile icon, then Help › Keyboard shortcuts — and shortcuts are off by default per user, so pressing them in a fresh account does nothing until you tick Enable keyboard shortcuts at the bottom of that panel. A second checkbox separately enables macro shortcuts in the composer. If a teammate's shortcuts work and yours don't, that panel is the answer.

The ticket triage loop

Agent speed comes from one rhythm: write, submit-with-status, next ticket. Ctrl + Alt + S submits the ticket, and the status keys around it — Ctrl + Alt + P pending, Ctrl + Alt + O open, Ctrl + Alt + H on-hold — set where it lands. Ctrl + Alt + M opens macros so canned replies are two keystrokes away, and Ctrl + Alt + A flips between public reply and internal note — the single most valuable one to make automatic, since posting an internal comment publicly is the classic Zendesk accident.

Composer formatting without the toolbar

The rich-text composer honors familiar formatting keys — Ctrl + B/I/U, list keys, and Ctrl + K for links — so replies keep structure without mouse trips to the toolbar. Typing / in messaging conversations pulls up shortcut phrases (Zendesk's name for canned snippets), which is a separate feature from macros but serves the same goal: no retyping the same three sentences forty times a day.

Frequently asked questions

Why don't keyboard shortcuts work in my Zendesk?

They're disabled per user by default. Click your profile icon › Help › Keyboard shortcuts and check Enable keyboard shortcuts at the bottom of the panel.

What is the Zendesk shortcut to submit a ticket?

Ctrl+Alt+S submits with the current status; combine with Ctrl+Alt+P/O/H to set pending, open, or on-hold as you submit.

How do I switch between public reply and internal note in Zendesk?

Ctrl+Alt+A toggles the composer channel. It's worth drilling — sending an internal note as a public reply is the most common agent mistake.

Where is the official Zendesk shortcut list?

In the product itself: profile icon › Help › Keyboard shortcuts. Zendesk's help center documents how to view and enable the list rather than publishing the table.

Do Zendesk shortcuts work in the Chat dashboard?

The standalone Chat dashboard has its own set (Ctrl+number to open a chat, Ctrl+~ to serve a request) and they aren't available when chat is embedded in the Support interface.
