IBM Spectrum Scale / ESS Keyboard Shortcuts & Commands (10)

Complete collection of 10 IBM Spectrum Scale / ESS keyboard shortcuts and commands. Browse all shortcuts organized by category with our interactive search tool.

IBM Storage Scale (GPFS) and the ESS appliances built on it are administered with the mm commands, and this table holds the ten that report on the cluster, filesystems, disks, quotas and health. The notes follow an operator's check: cluster, nodes, filesystem, disks, then the monitoring and quota commands that answer user complaints.

Cluster and nodes

mmlscluster prints the cluster name, manager nodes and every member with its designation (quorum, manager, client), and mmlsnode -a lists nodes per node class. mmhealth cluster show summarises health per component — GPFS, network, disk, filesystem — and mmhealth node show drills into one node; a DEGRADED state there is where an investigation starts.

Filesystems and disks

mmlsfs all shows every filesystem's attributes (block size, replication, quota enablement) and mmdf [FS] its capacity per disk and pool with free space and fragmentation. mmlsdisk [FS] -L lists the NSDs behind a filesystem with their status and availability — a disk shown as down or suspended explains missing capacity or slow I/O. mmdiag --filesets reports fileset state and inode usage, which on Storage Scale can exhaust before space does.

Performance and quotas

mmpmon -p -s n samples I/O statistics per node — read and write bytes, operations, latency — and is the primitive behind most Storage Scale dashboards. mmrepquota -j [FS] reports fileset quotas with usage and limits, the command to run when a project says it cannot write, and mmcheckquota [FS] recomputes quota accounting when the numbers look stale after a large delete.
