Notes
One trigger, then a different pair of keys per IDE
The inline-suggestion keys are small but precise: Alt + C summons a suggestion on demand and Tab accepts it on every tab of AWS’s reference. Cheat sheets sometimes list Alt + C as “next suggestion”, but AWS’s reference is unambiguous: Alt + C triggers, other keys cycle. Which keys depends on where you work: the Right and Left arrows in VS Code and JetBrains, Alt + ] and Alt + [ in Eclipse, Alt + . and Alt + , in Visual Studio, and Down and Up in SageMaker AI, JupyterLab and Glue Studio notebooks. In the four IDEs rejection needs no dedicated shortcut: Esc, Backspace, or simply typing something that mismatches all dismiss the suggestion. Accepting one word at a time is listed for VS Code only, as Cmd + Right.
Chat keys live only in the chat panel
The agentic chat adds three VS Code bindings — Shift + Ctrl + Enter to run the command Q proposes, Shift + Ctrl + R to reject it, Shift + Ctrl + Backspace to stop generation — and AWS scopes them to fire only while focus is inside the Q chat panel, precisely so they can never shadow your editor’s own bindings. On a Mac the same three use Cmd (Shift + Cmd + Return to run), and AWS prints a Linux form with Meta. They ride VS Code’s native keybinding system, so anything you remap in the Keyboard Shortcuts editor updates Q’s tooltips too. Inline chat is separate: Ctrl + I opens it in VS Code and JetBrains, Ctrl + Shift + I in Eclipse.
The terminal side is now Kiro CLI, and the plugins have an end date
AWS’s user guide no longer documents a Q command line of its own: its page on the subject says the Q CLI has become the Kiro CLI and points to the Kiro documentation. Kiro’s upgrade guide says the old q and q chat entry points keep working, while recommending kiro-cli (kiro-cli chat works as well); the Kiro reference lists the commands under kiro-cli: chat, translate, doctor, login, logout and version. Inside the IDE chat, the feature commands are gone too: AWS says the development, test, documentation and review features “used to be referred to as” /dev, /test, /doc and /review, and now lists only /clear, /compact and /help. AWS will discontinue support for the Amazon Q Developer IDE plugins on April 30, 2027 and directs users to Kiro.
Questions
What does Alt + C actually do in Amazon Q?
It manually triggers an inline suggestion (Option + C on macOS). It does not cycle to the next suggestion — that is the Right arrow in VS Code and JetBrains, Alt + ] in Eclipse, Alt + . in Visual Studio, and the Down arrow in SageMaker AI, JupyterLab and Glue Studio notebooks.
How do I reject an Amazon Q suggestion?
In VS Code, JetBrains, Eclipse and Visual Studio there are three ways, no dedicated key needed: press Esc, press Backspace, or just keep typing — the suggestion disappears at the first character mismatch. In Lambda and Cloud9 scrolling also dismisses it; for the notebook environments AWS lists Esc only.
Why don't the Amazon Q chat shortcuts work in my editor?
They are scoped: Shift + Ctrl + Enter, Shift + Ctrl + R and Shift + Ctrl + Backspace (Cmd instead of Ctrl on a Mac) fire only while focus is inside the Q chat panel, and currently only in VS Code. That scoping is deliberate, to avoid clashing with editor keybindings.
Can I change Amazon Q's keyboard shortcuts?
Yes. Q uses each IDE's native shortcut system, so remap them in your IDE's keyboard settings; tooltips inside Q update to match. A refresh of the IDE may be needed before tooltips reflect the change.
What happened to q chat and the Amazon Q Developer CLI?
AWS's user guide now states that the Q CLI has become the Kiro CLI. According to Kiro's upgrade guide, q and q chat continue to work, but Kiro recommends kiro-cli (kiro-cli chat works as well), and running q update switches an existing installation to Kiro CLI.

Does Amazon Q have a shortcut to accept just part of a suggestion?
Yes, in VS Code: AWS lists Accept next word as Cmd + Right and prints no Windows key for it. Tab still accepts the whole suggestion.
When does AWS stop supporting the Amazon Q Developer IDE plugins?
