What Is the Shortcut Speedrun Game?

The game works like a typing test, but for keyboard shortcuts. You see an action name (e.g. "Toggle Sidebar") and press the correct shortcut (Ctrl+B). Get it right, earn points. A 30-second timer keeps the pressure on. Streaks multiply your score.

The key difference from a cheat sheet: you have to produce the answer from memory, not just read it. This is what makes it effective for actually learning shortcuts rather than just being aware of them.

How Scoring Works

Base score per correct answer is 10 points. Modifiers stack on top:

Leaderboard tip: To maximize your score, skip hints entirely and aim for sub-3 second responses. The reaction bonus plus streak multiplier can triple your base score.

Mac vs Windows Mode

The game auto-detects your OS on load. Mac users see Cmd and Option key names; Windows users see Ctrl and Alt. You can manually toggle between modes using the OS button in the game header — useful if you're learning shortcuts for a different OS than you're currently on.

How to Get the Most Out of the Game

  1. Start with Beginner mode for any new platform — get comfortable with the format
  2. Pick your actual tool first (the one you use at work)
  3. Play for 5 minutes daily rather than one long session
  4. Progress to Intermediate once you're hitting 80%+ accuracy in Beginner
  5. Use Survival mode for genuine long-term retention testing
