What is the shortcut for the Frame tool in Figma?
F — Frame Tool
Press F to select the Frame tool, then drag on the canvas or click a preset size in the right panel. Frames are the containers Figma uses for screens, components and auto-layout, so F is usually the first key of a new file.

From the Figma reference (53 entries) · all how-to answers
Frame versus rectangle versus group
A frame clips its children, carries its own auto-layout and constraints, and becomes a screen in Prototype mode; a rectangle (R) is just a shape, and a group (Ctrl + G) is a loose collection that grows and shrinks with its contents. Pressing F and choosing a preset from the right panel — iPhone, Desktop, A4 — is how most files start, and Ctrl + Alt + G wraps an existing selection in a new frame when you started with loose layers.
Working inside frames
Once a frame exists, Enter steps into it to select children and Shift + Enter steps back out; Tab and Shift + Tab move between sibling layers, and N and Shift + 2 jump between top-level frames when presenting or reviewing a long canvas. Auto-layout is added to a frame with Shift + A, which is the point at which the frame starts resizing itself around its contents rather than clipping them.
A note on the source
Figma publishes only a partial shortcut list and treats the in-app panel opened with Ctrl + Shift + ? as the canonical one, so the Figma table on this site is assembled from that panel and Figma’s help pages rather than from a single document. F for the Frame tool has been stable across every release; the keys most likely to differ between versions are the panel toggles and the newer Dev Mode shortcuts, which is why each row on the reference page notes what it was checked against.
